hurricane update...

Hurricane Sandy has left Conor and me stranded in Gainesville, Florida. Airports won't open until tomorrow and our flight isn't scheduled until Friday.

We've been glued to the hotel television following the news in the tri-state area. We are happy that both of our families and friends are safe and well.

The images and video are horrifying and our hearts and thoughts go out to everyone who has been effected by the storm.

We can't wait to get back to New York City, the greatest city in the world.
Stay safe everyone!

Here is Claire's take on the dress-layering that has been featured on the site pretty often. It's amazing what you can do with a LBD. Claire proves that if it's short enough (which, let's be real, all of her dresses are), you can throw a skirt over it to give it a much different look. This purple skirt is also a wardrobe staple as it can be worn as the pop of color for an outfit - or as a neutral. Purple is a hot trend for this fall/winter so if you've been on the fence about the plum hue in the past - say fuck it and give it a shot.
She's also modeled the look with both sneakers and wedges - showing both a casual and more night/going out look.
The sneakers were black & white when Claire bought them from H&M and then she took a highlighter to them like crazy only Claire can. And there is the beauty in disco high-tops.
This is definitely an outfit that, come the cooler months ahead - can be paired with black opaque tights and boots.

Will you be trying out purple or layers this fall?

mumford & sons...

*
Tonight I got some really amazing news - I won two tickets to see Mumford & Sons at the Ed Sullivan Theatre - a mid-day private show. I'm a big fan of the band but have never been able to see them live. It was so exciting to be able to take off of work early and shoot up to the theatre to check it out. It was also really neat seeing where David Letterman does his show - it's tiny! I have been to a taping of Jimmy Fallon's show and his studio was bigger than the Ed Sullivan Theatre (more room for the ROOTS!). It was so nice to be able to take Conor to a private, spontaneous show like this. He takes me to things like this all the time, so it was nice to return the favor!
Although they wouldn't let me break out my DSLR for optimal zoom pics, I was able to snag these on my iphone. When the video goes up on CBS's Letterman Live website, I will be sure to post it here.
Now...goodnight, I'm exhausted. Big day tomorrow!

wafles & dinges...

Besides being the best day of the work-week, it was also Café Friday at work where the company sets up breakfast for the employees. Sometimes it's just bagels or fruit, other times, its Cinnabon or like today - Wafles &Dinges. The NYC based food-truck and catering organization set up in our office and doled out hundreds of custom waffles.
Now, it’s safe to say that I do a lot of complaining in my life. It’s something that I have become something of an expert at. I can find almost anything to complain about, and work has got to be on the top of the list. But today’s Café Friday really just shut me the hell up – in more ways than one. I’m lucky to not only have a job, but to have such a good one that comes with perks, nice people, and just plain fun!

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to stuff my face with a strawberry-chocolate-whipped cream waffle!

Never Forget

{All of these photos were taken with my iphone}

I used to work in the Financial District at Wall St and Broadway.  Many of these photos are taken from my old office.  Having that view and being able to watch World Trade 1 rise up was truly amazing.

This post is in honor of everyone that was a victim that day, from New York to Pennsylvania to Washington. To everyone who gave their life or health, or lost a family member, or a loved one. To everyone who is still  hurting and whose lives were forever changed by that day.

We will never forget.

This post is in honor of Labor Day and not being able to wear white pants anymore, so here's a blog with a shit ton of prints and COLORED DENIM. Also, sisters! Try not to let your head explode.

A couple Saturday's ago, sisters Dana and Halley came to Brooklyn and we went out for lunch. I also took advantage of their fine fashion sense and asked them if I could feature them in an upcoming post. They were more than happy to help me out, and I was relieved and am eternally grateful!

Colored and pattered denim has been really trendy this summer. Wearing it can sometimes be difficult (see: mint jeggings with cellulite texture), but it's important to not give a fuck what anybody else thinks - because in reality - ten or twenty years from now it's probably not going to be trendy, it's going to be outdated. And if you want to look back at your outdated trends, you're going to want to know that you went all out with that shit.

As you can see, Halley and Dana are rocking these trends - extremely well, and they don't give a fuck, which may be the most important part. So thank you, to two of the most lovely sisters on the East Coast for being such lovely additions to my wee little blog!

Have you rocked colored or patterned denim?
What are your thoughts on this hot trend?
